Boston Cannons News Release
Denver, CO. - Hat tricks by Will Manny and Brent Adams were not enough as the Denver Outlaws (2-3) defeated the Boston Cannons (3-3) 17-13 at Mile High Stadium on Saturday night.
It was a frustrating night for the Cannons. Boston was overpowered by the energetic and strategic Denver. Whenever Boston seemed to get going, the defense stepped in to put a stop to the Cannons' momentum gaining possession.
It was Denver's Ryan LaPlante who made a difference in the game. The net minder stood tall in between the posts, allowing very little past him.
The Cannons had jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the first quarter, thanks to back-to-back goals by Will Manny. Justin Turri and Brent Adams soon followed in Manny's scoring act. It appeared that things were looking good as the Cannons led 4-1.
Then something stirred the Outlaws. Denver went on a four-goal run and didn't look back the rest of the game.
Eric Law had five goals while both Michael Bocklet and Drew Snider posted hat tricks of their own for Denver.
Entering halftime, the Cannons trailed 10-8. It was a night of firsts for Josh Hawkins, Kevin Buchanan, James Fahey, and Greg Rogowski who all scored their first goals of the season.
The Outlaws exploded in the third; the team put up five goals and began to pull away. James Fahey struck twice for the Cannons. The goals marked his first of his MLL career. Kevin Buchanan also scored twice in his return to the lineup.
Heading into the fourth quarter, the Cannons tried to rally. They were down and out as no miracle occurred. Denver expertly outran the clock. The offense was dry for the Cannons and possession was limited.
Greg Rogoswki scored his first goal as a Cannon with five seconds remaining on the scoreboard. Then the buzzer sounded and that was it. The Cannons dropped their second straight game.
Tyler Fiorito stopped nine of the 26 shots that he saw. Craig Bunker was 17-34 at the face-off X. Davey Emala had two assists and Brodie Merrill had eight ground balls.
The Cannons will be back in action next weekend as they head to Atlanta to face the Atlanta Blaze for the second time this season on Saturday, June 4.
It will be another weekend before the Cannons return home to Harvard where they face the Charlotte Hounds on Saturday, June 11. Tickets are still available and can be purchased at BostonCannons.com/tickets or by calling our front office at (617) 746-9933.
