
Boston Cannons Dominate Charlotte Hounds 14-6

Boston, MA (May 17, 2014) - The Boston Cannons used an offensive outpouring to defeat the Charlotte Hounds at Harvard Stadium 14-6. The Cannons were led by face-off specialist Chris Eck, winning 19 of 24. Paul Rabil,named the Coca-Cola Player of the Game, had 3 goals and 3 assists to lead the team with 6 points.
The Cannons jumped out to a lead after 8 minutes with a goal by rookie Jack Rice, assisted by Paul Rabil. They scored again less than a minute later when Owen Blye spun around a defender and found himself 1 on 1 with the goalie right in front of the net. Charlotte scored with less than a minute left in the first quarter when John Haus put the Hounds on the board. The Cannons quickly responded when Will Manny scored with less than 10 seconds left in the quarter after catching a pass from Paul Rabil. The first quarter ended 3-1 Boston.
Rabil waited only 49 seconds into the second quarter to contribute again, scoring his first goal of the game. Will Manny scored his second goal of the game just 3 minutes later when he was assisted by Kevin Buchanan. Boston again scored just 4 minutes later when Ryan Boyle was assisted by Will Manny. Charlotte scored their second goal of the game with 6 minutes left in the half when Joe Cummings ended the Hounds scoreless drought. Boston responded scoring 2 goals in less than a minute, the first being Kevin Buchanan's league leading 13th goal on the season, assisted by Ryan Boyle, and the second being an unassisted goal by Paul Rabil. Charlotte closed out the half with an unassisted goal by Josh Hawkins. The first half ended with the Cannons leading 8-3.
Boston got off to a hot start in the second half when Stephen Berger scored an unassisted goal after 4 minutes of play. With 10 minutes left in the quarter midfielder Martin Bowes blocked a shot with his shoulder, causing an injury that halted the game momentarily. Kevin Buchanan scored his second goal of the game, 14th on the season when he was assisted by Paul Rabil with 6 minutes left in the quarter, Rabil's 3rd assist of the game. Owen Blye scored his second goal of the game just a minute later. Charlotte then scored 2 consecutive goals from Josh Hawkins, his second of the game and John Haus. The quarter ended with the Cannons leading 11-5.
Boston scored 3 minutes into the fourth quarter when Stephen Berger was assisted by Ryan Boyle. Charlotte scored their final goal of the game when Mike Sawyer was assisted by Thomas DeNapoli. The Cannons scored 2 more goals to close out the game, both unassisted, the first coming from Paul Rabil followed by Brent Adams.
The game ended 14-6 as the Cannons dominated play and improves to 2-2 on the year, while Charlotte falls to 1-3 on the year.
Jordan Burke got the win for the Cannon, his 23rd win for the Cannons, bringing him within 2 wins of tying the all-time record by Chris Garrity. Burke saved 10 shots on 16 shots on goal. Recent call-up to the team, goalie Austin Kaut made his MLL debut with less than 4 minutes to play and did not record a save as he faced 0 shots.
The Cannons next game is on the road May 30th against the New York Lizards, and continue with two more away games against the Ohio Machine on June 6th and at the Chesapeake Bayhawks June 14th . The Cannons return home on June 21st against the Ohio machine at 8:00pm at Harvard Stadium.
