Boston Cannons Announce Fan Activities For Home Opener On Saturday

BOSTON, MA - Thursday, May 15, 2008 - The Boston Cannons of Major League Lacrosse (MLL) today announced the fan activities scheduled for their 2008 home opener against the New Jersey Pride, set for Saturday, May 17 at 7:00 PM at Harvard Stadium, according to Cannons Vice President and General Manager Mark Kastrud.
As part of Saturday's festivities, one of the 2008 WBCN 104.1 FM/Berklee College of Music Battle of the High School Bands participants, Zephyr, will perform in the brand-new Cannons Fan Zone courtyard area, Qdoba will offer their Qdoba 16 Goal Bonanza promotion during the game, the Cannons will give away the 2008 Supercuts schedule magnet and the first sheet of the Newton-Wellesley Hospital Cannons trading card set, various sponsors will be on hand in the Fan Zone to sample their products or offer discounts, and the Cannons will host a post-game party at Tommy Doyle's Irish Pub and Restaurant in Harvard Square.
Prior to start of game, Zephyr, from Wakefield, MA, is scheduled to perform from 5:00 - 7:00 PM on the WBCN Stage in the brand-new Cannons Fan Zone courtyard area, between the Murr Center and Bright Hockey Center. Zephyr was part of the this year's competition, held on April 12 at Harper's Ferry in Allston, MA; possibly the closest competition that WBCN has seen in the fourteen years that the Battle of the High School Bands event has taken place.
Also in the new Cannons Fan Zone courtyard, Dunkin' Donuts will be on hand to give out free samples of iced coffee, Dick's Sporting Goods will hand out coupons valid at participating locations and the New England Lacrosse Journal will have their May issue available for Cannons fans. The new courtyard Fan Zone location will provide a more convenient and spacious location for fans to enjoy the activities surrounding Cannons games this season.
If the Cannons score 16 goals or more, Qdoba will give free chips and queso to all Cannons fans who show their ticket stub at participating Qdoba restaurants as part of the Qdoba 16 Goal Bonanza.
The first 2,000 fans in attendance at Saturday night's game will receive a 2008 Supercuts schedule magnet.
The first 2,000 fans in attendance will also receive the first of seven Cannons player trading card sets. One sheet will be given out at each of the Cannons' seven home games this season. The first sheet of four Cannons trading cards features goalie Jake Coon, defenseman Stephen McElduff, midfielder and co-captain David Jenkins and attackman John Christmas.
Following Saturday's game, fans are invited to meet their favorite members of the Cannons at Tommy Doyle's Irish Pub and Restaurant in Harvard Square (96 Winthrop Street, Cambridge, MA, 617-864-0655) during the team's post-game party.
The Cannons are set to open the 2008 season at their home field of Harvard Stadium versus the New Jersey Pride on Saturday, May 17 at 7:00 PM. The game will air live on Comcast SportsNet New England.
