Boston Cannons Announce 2009 Roster

BOSTON, MA - Wednesday, May 13, 2009 - The Boston Cannons of Major League Lacrosse (MLL) today announced their 23-man active roster and 3-man practice squad for the start of the 2009 season, according to Cannons Vice President and General Manager Mark Kastrud.
"We had a lot of very talented players at training camp this year," said Cannons Head Coach and Director of Player Personnel Bill Daye. "We had to make some tough decisions, but we're very excited about the team we have and are ready to work hard and get the season started against Long Island on Saturday."
Defenseman Chris Passavia will return as a captain of the Cannons in 2009. He will be joined this season by attackman Matt Alrich as a new co-captain. Passavia, a four-time MLL All-Star and the Cannons Team MVP in 2007, is entering his sixth season with the team. Alrich is beginning his second season as a Cannon after finishing 2008 tied for the team lead with 41 points.
Midfielder Nate Evans, defenseman Patrick Gaffney and midfielder/face-off specialist John Ortolani have been assigned to the Cannons practice squad.
Midfielder Matt Poskay, the Cannons Team MVP and Offensive Player of the Year in 2008, will miss the beginning of the season with a non-lacrosse related injury. Poskay has been assigned to the Physically Unable to Perform List.

The Cannons are scheduled to open the 2009 season at their home field of Harvard Stadium versus the Long Island Lizards on Saturday, May 16 at 7:00 PM.
