Boston Pride News Release
The Boston Pride had plenty to prove coming into Stamford Sunday. The new-look 2016 Isobel Cup Champions lost a seventh straight game to Buffalo at home last week, tying the Whale for the longest skid of the season.
As for the Whale, they snapped their seven game losing streak against the Pride by way of the shootout. The visit to the win column would not last, as the Whale dropped their eighth game of the season last week in Newark. Needless to say, this week's game was an important win for playoff seeding for both teams.
The teams went scoreless throughout the first period with both netminders Brittany Ott and Sydney Rossman collecting nine saves. Emily Field opened the scoring in the opening two minutes of the second period. Jillian Dempsey and Sydney Daniels picked up the assists, continuing where the line left off in Boston last week.
After the second intermission, Daniels picked up the first power play goal of the six minutes into the final frame after. Whale captain Sam Faber was sent to Whale jail on a tripping call, marking the fifth of seven Connecticut penalties of the game. Boston put the game on ice as Alyssa Gagliardi sent in a shot towards net that Emily Field successfully tipped past Rossman.
Brittany Ott secured her second shutout of the season, stopping all 25 shots the Whale put on target. "It felt good to come back to the team," said Ott, who witnessed a few good friends and former Pride teammates win the gold medal at the 2018 Winter Olympics.
She was pleased to see the Pride come together, especially after the thought 6-2 loss to the Beauts last season. The third-year Pride netminder felt the team was making the needed adjustments just in time for the final playoff push. "I'm really happy with the win today, I'm really happy with how we performed."
Behind her perfect game in net, the Pride have now secured sole possession of third place with two games left. Next week, the Pride will again face the Connecticut Whale. The Pride undoubtedly have the momentum after blanking the Whale at home. However, the Whale are a perfect 2-0 at Warrior Ice Arena this season. Both winning goals have come off the stick of Bourne, Massachusetts native Emily Fluke.
Should Boston win again next week, they clinch third place. The Whale will need to take down the Pride in regulation, defeat the Beauts in their regular season finale, and get some help from their Tri-State rivals next week to finish in third place.
The puck drops on the Pride vs Whale series finale Saturday, March 3 at 7:30 pm live from Warrior Ice Arena.
