Schaumburg Boomers News Release
SAUGET, Ill. - The 2021 Frontier League Champion Schaumburg Boomers held a pair of leads but suffered a 6-3 loss at the hands of the Gateway Grizzlies, who walked off with a sweep on a three-run homer from Cesar Trejo.
Schaumburg opened the scoring for the third consecutive time in the series, nabbing a single run in the top of the third. Thomas DeBonville led off with a single and crossed the plate with the bases loaded on an RBI single from Brett Milazzo. The Boomers could not add to the lead, stranding the bases loaded. Abdiel Diaz tied the game with a solo homer for Gateway in the fifth and with two outs took the lead.
Alec Craig led off the sixth with a solo homer to tie the game. Blake Grant-Parks doubled and scored later in the inning on a sacrifice fly from Clint Hardy. Gateway scored a single run in the bottom of the eighth and won the contest on the homer with two outs in the ninth.
The homer spoiled an outstanding effort from Blake Stelzer, who twirled his fourth quality start. Stelzer allowed two runs in six innings and struck out eight. The Boomers finished with 10 hits but left 10 on base and hit into a pair of double plays. Milazzo, Chase Dawson and Grant-Parks all finished with two hits.
The Boomers (15-19) return home this weekend for a three-game series against the Joliet Slammers beginning tomorrow night at 6:30 p.m. The contest is part of the Metra Series and will welcome you to Jurassic Ballpark while also featuring postgame fireworks. Dinosaur themed fun happens throughout the game, which is presented by Buttitta Law Group. RHP Shumpei Yoshikawa (3-3, 6.99) takes the ball in the first game of the series.
