Bombers Wreak Havoc on Bases to End Skid, Defeat Terre Haute 6-1

June 22, 2011 - Prospect League (Prospect)
Dubois County Bombers News Release

The Dubois County Bombers' five game skid ended Wednesday night with a convincing 6-1 win against the Terre Haute Rex. After getting four straight days off due to rain-outs, the Bombers came out healthy and rested. All facets of the game were great tonight - Tomas Rodriguez pitched a great game, the offense and defense were stellar, and aggressive baserunning may have been the key to the victory.

Tomas Rodriguez (Mid Continent Univ.) made a statement that he may be one of the best pitchers in the league tonight, throwing a complete game and allowing just one run. Even with such a great game, his ERA actually rose to 0.82, proof of how dominant he has been this young season. Rodriguez, a native of Puerto Rico, also struck out three Rex hitters.

The Bombers took an early lead, despite not having any hits in the first four innings. Terre Haute starter Chris Nunn didn't allow many hits, but he walked seven batters, giving Dubois County the base-runners they needed. Manager Grant Bellak made sure his team was aggressive on the bases to take advantage of the early chances, as the Bombers stole five bases. Joe Perez, Kolin Conner, and Grant Zawadzki stole one base apiece, while Kirby Campbell stole a pair Wednesday night.

Campbell (Ball State) also knocked two hits, scored a run, and drove in a run. Nick Stoia (Franklin) and Hofstra players Danny Poma and Joe Perez were the other Bombers to get hits.

The next Bombers home game is Friday, June 24th at League Stadium against the Terre Haute Rex. With all of the recent rain-outs, it will be Noah's Ark Night at the game, where fans will come in two by two. Each pair of Bomber fans will get in for the price of just one ticket. Game time is scheduled for 7:15 pm EDT.
