Dubois County Bombers News Release
Danville, IL - A huge crowd of 4,163 fans at Danville Stadium Saturday night saw a tight ballgame as the Dubois County Bombers got a brilliant pitching performance from David Mueller (St. Louis University) and defeated the hometown Dans by a score of 2-1.
Danville got their lone run in the bottom of the first when outfielder Charlie White got an infield hit, stole second and eventually scored on a ground out. The Bombers tied the score at 1-1 in the third on a leadoff single by shortstop Grant Zawadzki (Cleveland State) who advanced to third on a Danville error and scored on an infield out.
In the sixth the Bombers pulled ahead when a two out throwing error by Danville third baseman Gabe Woods put T.J. Thomas (Hofstra) on 2nd. Danville starter Michael Wagner then suffered from wildness as he walked Aric Marquardt (St. Joesph's) and threw two wild pitches allowing Thomas to score the eventual winning run.
Meanwhile the Bombers Mueller was cruising along with a one hitter when Danville's Gabe Woods singled with two outs in the eighth. But Mueller avoided further damage when he got Charlie White on a ground out to end the inning.
In the 9th, the Bombers almost let Danville back in the game when Thomas, playing third base, uncorked a two base throwing error and put the tying run at second with nobody out. But Mueller slammed the door shut by striking out the next two hitters and getting a ground out to end the game.
For the night, Mueller allowed just two hits, walked one and struck out 9 in one of the top pitching performances in the Prospect League this summer. The Bombers out-hit the Dans 6-2 with Grant Zawadzki leading the way with 2 hits including a double.
The Bombers return to League Stadium (today) for Family Sunday with a game against the Nashville Outlaws - all families of three or more will receive $1 off of each ticket at the gate and immediate families will pay no more than $20.00 for any seats! Sunday will also be Native American Cultural Enrichment Night. First pitch is at 6:15 pm EDT and gates will open at 5:05 pm.
