Bombers Lose Nail-Biter to Dekalb County, 3-2

June 30, 2011 - Prospect League (Prospect)
Dubois County Bombers News Release

The Dubois County Bombers dropped their fourth straight game Thursday night with a nail-biting 3-2 loss to the DeKalb County Liners. After facing a 2-0 deficit, the Bombers knotted it up in the fourth inning. However, the Bombers couldn't catch any breaks, and DeKalb County took the lead in the eighth on a Matt Lamore single.

Tomas Rodriguez, a likely Prospect League All-Star, got the start for the Bombers. In seven innings he gave up 11 hits (several of which took bad bounces to get by infielders) and struck out seven Liners. Rodriguez, a Puerto Rican native, also gave up two earned runs, taking up ERA up to 1.24.

The Bombers' runs came in the fourth after Joe Perez led off with a single to left field. His Hofstra teammate, T.J. Thomas, then drew a base on balls. Filling in tonight as the first baseman, Aric Marquardt hit a frozen rope to center that scored Perez and moved Thomas to second. Catcher Kolin Conner then bunted his way on to load the bases. Tonight's second baseman, Nick Stoia, then hit a sacrifice fly to tie the ballgame at two apiece. Brian Norwood then got hit by a pitch to re-load the bases, but Grant Zawadzki would then ground out into a double play to end the inning.

The newest Bomber, Adam Radick, relieved Rodriguez of his duties to start the eighth. He walked the lead-off man, a move in baseball that usually will come back to hurt you. After a sacrifice bunt and a fly-out, DeKalb County's designated hitter Matt Lamore stepped to the plate. With a 2-2 count, Lamore singled up the middle to give DeKalb the lead, something they wouldn't relinquish on this night. Radick took the loss in his first decision of the year. Dubois County drops to 8-14, while the Liners rise to 10-14.

The Bombers are at home again Friday night, hosting the Danville Dans at 7:15 pm EDT. They will also be at home on Saturday night, facing off against the Terre Haute Rex at the same time. The last time the Rex and Bombers faced, there was no love lost between the two teams as Terre Haute pitchers hit four Bombers with pitches in one inning, leading to the only ejection League Stadium has seen this season.

Don't forget to reserve your 4th of July Bomber tickets by calling 812-683-3700 or stopping by the Bombers' office at League Stadium. On the 4th, Dubois County will host the Danville Dans and FIREWORKS will follow the game. Act quickly, so you don't miss out on the action!
