Dubois County Bombers News Release

HUNTINGBURG, Ind. - In a game that mattered little in the standings, Ryan Billo pitched a complete game, and the Dubois County Bombers beat the Springfield Sliders 10-2 Monday night at League Stadium in the regular season finale.

"I finally had it," Billo said. "I've been waiting for it all summer, and I finally got it."

Billo (3-3) earned the win for the Bombers. He surrendered two runs (one earned) on eight hits, but he also struck out eight Sliders without walking anyone.

"I just tried to mix up my pitches," Billo said. "[Bombers catcher] Kolin [Conner] called a great game; I didn't shake him off once."

Billo and Conner took advantage of a Sliders lineup that reflected many late-season losses. All-Star Mike Fitzgerald and many other regulars did not make the trip - only 14 players did - and pitchers manned right field for Springfield.

Billo also had plenty of run support; everyone in the Dubois County lineup recorded at least one hit.

Jeff Zahn cracked a two-run single in the first that drove home Landon Curry and Zach Long, who both reached on infield singles, to stake Dubois County to a 2-0 lead before a seven-run third broke it open.

Zach Wendorf (0-5) took the loss for Springfield. He allowed 15 hits and 10 runs in six innings, but only two of the runs were earned.

The Bombers finished 16-15 in the second half and 36-24 for the entire season. Monday's win was their third in a row.

The Sliders finished 13-17 in the second half and 24-36 overall.

Dubois County hosts the Terre Haute Rex for the Western Divisional playoff game Tuesday night at 7:15 p.m. at League Stadium. Kirby Stailey will be performing before and during the game.

"We're just gonna go right at them," Billo said. "Nothing changes."

Tickets are still available.
