Bombers Continue Hofstra Connection
April 11, 2012 - Prospect League (Prospect)
Dubois County Bombers News Release
After watching 2011 Prospect League All Star Danny Poma perform last summer, the Dubois County Bombers turned to Hofstra University once again in search of more talent for the 2012 season. While Poma is ineligible to return to the Bombers this season he's dominating this spring in leading the Pride of Hempstead, NY to a surprising 18-12 record under newly appointed Manager John Russo. Playing in all 30 games, the swift outfielder is making his case for the upcoming June amateur Major League draft. In 129 at bats, Poma is hitting .457 with 18 doubles, 6 HR's, a slugging percentage of .736 and 18 stolen bases. "To paraphrase Deadbeat, Wayne Porter, If Danny Poma isn't drafted there ought to be an investigation" said Bomber owner John Bigness. "When he came to us last summer he had been working for 3 weeks and hadn't played any baseball. It took him a few weeks to get going but he made up for it. He made the All Star team, hit over .390 the second half - by now you would think some pro scouts have noticed."
New to the Bombers this summer will be Junior infielder Dalton Rouleau, Junior infielder/outfielder Austin Nyman and Freshman, RHP David Jesch. All of them are enjoying fine first year seasons at Hofstra.
Rouleau, (5'9", 170 lb, R/R) from Lompoc, CA played last season at highly regarded Allan Hancock Community College (CA). The everyday shortstop for the Pride, Rouleau is hitting .361 in 24 games with 5 doubles, 1 HR, and 16 Stolen Bases in 20 attempts. He's had several 3 hit games including one against Notre Dame on February 25th. O ut of action in late March with an injury Rouleau rejoined the Pride lineup in early April.
Nyman, a 6'0", 160 lb, from Reno, NV also played last season at Allan Hancock CC. He has played second and the outfield for the Pride this season and, after a slow start, has been on a tear the last month raising his average to .306 with 6 doubles, 2 triples, 16-18 stolen bases and only 7 strikeouts in 98 at bats.
Jesch, a 6'0", 185, Freshman, was highly recruited out of West Essex High School in Caldwell, NJ. So far he has not disappointed compiling the lowest E.R.A on the staff and the second most innings. In 10 games, 6 starts he is 3-0 with an E.R.A. of 2.54. Over 39 innings he's allowed just 33 hits, walked 17 and struck out 35.
Said Bomber Owner John Bigness, "I am excited about all three of these guys making us a much better club this summer. They face top Division 1 competition day in and day out and fans who come out to the ballpark will be impressed with their talent and work ethic. They should help make us an exciting club to watch."
The Bombers will play their first of 30 home games at League Stadium on Wednesday May 30th when they host the Springfield Sliders. 2012 Season Tickets are on sale thru April 30th. For more information please call the Bomber at (812) 683-3700.
