Bombers Claim 5-4 Walk-Off Win over Marshals

June 13, 2014 - Texas Collegiate League (TCL) - Texas Marshals News Release

With one out in the bottom of the ninth inning on Thursday night in Bryan, the Brazos Valley Bombers had runners on first and third with the game tied at 4-4 against the Texas Marshals. Horacio Correa hit what looked to be an inning-ending double play ball to send the game to extra innings, but the umpire ruled that the relay throw to first base pulled Marshals first baseman Michael Hoard off of the bag. Jimmy Norris never stopped running from second base on the play and came all the way around to score and give the Bombers a 5-4 walk-off win.

The Marshals received a quality start from Holden Novak as he tossed 5.2 innings, allowing just three runs on six hits with four walks and two strikeouts. Jeff Harvill took the loss for the Marshals in relief.

The Bombers jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on a two-run single by Kolbey Carpenter.

The Marshals took a 3-2 lead in the top of the fourth inning. Hoard hit a sacrifice fly to score Carlos Contreras, James Stroud hit an RBI double to plate Jace Reese, and Casey Mullennix drove home Daniel Rushing on an RBI single.

The Bombers tied things back up at 3-3 in the bottom of the sixth as Dane Steinhagen hit a sacrifice fly.

An RBI triple by Hunter Haley scored Correa to give the Bombers a 4-3 advantage in the bottom of the seventh.

The Marshals tied the game up at 4-4 in the top of the ninth in dramatic fashion as Carson Shaddy delivered an RBI double with two outs to score Mullennix all the way from first base. But the Bombers would claim the walk-off win with dramatics of their own in the bottom of the frame.

With the win, the Bombers improve to 9-3 on the season. The Marshals fall to 3-10 with the loss. The two teams will meet again on Friday night at 7:05pm at Cellucor Field in Bryan.
