Bomber Sticks Oust Cavemen

Huntingburg, IN. June 10th. The Dubois County Bombers put on an early hitting display here Sunday night and went on to post a 9-6 victory over the Hannibal Cavemen. The Bombers began the day in a first place tie with the defending Prospect League Champion Quincy Gems, each with a record of 9-2 but the Bomber victory and a 10-8 loss by the Gems vs. Terre Haute put the Bombers in sole possession of first place after two full weeksof Prospect League action.

The Bombers struck in the first inning off Hannibal starter Adam Brush when, with one out, second baseman Bo Ausmus singled, and, after the second out, first baseman Jeff Zahn delivered a triple to right field scoring Ausmus for the game's first run. Designated Hitter Frank Rawdow followed with a single to drive in Zahn and give the Bombers a 2-0 lead.

The Bombers added a run in the second on a double by Kolin Conner and an RBI single by Landon Curry to make it 3-0. Hannibal answered back in the top of the 3rd when Bomber starter Taylor Luna gave up two walks and a two out two run double by right fielder Jake Wolf to make it 3-2. In the Bombers half of the 3rd, Cody Daily reached on a Hannibal error and eventually scored after singles by Zahn and Brendan Neel. Dalton Rouleau singled in Zahn to make it 5-2 and Connor delivered again with a 3 run blast to make it 8-2.

Luna pitched the first 5 innings to get his first win of the season for the Bombers and Nick Smart pitched 2 2/3 innings of solid relief to get his first save.

After an off day on Monday, the Bombers travel to Springfield on Tuesday before returning to League Stadium for a game Wednesday evening against the Sliders. Gates open at 6:00 pm with first pitch at 7:15 pm EDT.
