London Lightning News Release
(LONDON, ON) Despite a short bench and playing three games in four nights, the London Lightning defeated the Sudbury Five 139-136. It was a less than typical game for the Lightning as their offense, not their defense, that was able to make a difference in the game. Despite 18 lead changes and giving up a nine point third quarter lead, the Lightning managed to pull away late and hold on for the narrow win.
For the third straight game, only eight Lightning players were available. Jaylon Tate (ankle), Omar Strong (hip), Mo Bolden (shoulder) and Marvin Binney (calf) are all nursing injuries and are currently listed as day-to-day. The Lightning bench was more active on the night, contributing 35 points. Tonight's game was the first time London broke the 120 point mark while also allowing a team to score 100 points for the first time this season.
Garrett Williamson had his best scoring game of the season, recording 30 points on the night to go along with 9 assists and 6 rebounds, and was also a steady presence late in the game keeping the Lightning on top with several key baskets in the fourth. Big man Randy Phillips also played his best game of the season going 13-17 for 28 points and 8 rebounds. Xavier Moon (25 points), AJ Gaines (22 points), and Marcus Capers (22 points) also reached 22 or more points on the night.
The Lightning's five-game home-stand comes to an end next Saturday when the Windsor Express come to town. For tickets to the next home game make sure to visit the Budweiser Gardens Box Office or go to www.lightningbasketball.ca.
