London Lightning News Release
(LONDON, ON) - The London Lightning have extended their winning streak to six games Saturday night after defeating the visiting Sudbury Five, 117-92. London still sits atop the National Basketball League of Canada standings with a perfect 6-0 record.
Sudbury jumped out to an early lead in the opening quarter, hitting a number of triples, before the Bolts would recover and finish off the quarter strong, taking a 27-24 lead. London would clamp up the Sudbury shooters in the second quarter, holding the team known for its scoring, to just 14 points in 12 minutes. London would take a 61-31 lead heading into the half.
The second half was much of the same for both teams as Sudbury would fail to close the gap to a management amount. London would hold on and answer any run by the Five with a run of their own. Despite being outscored in the third, London would hold on and win impressively.
After struggling in the first, Cam Forte led the team with 22 points and 9 rebounds on the night while Player of the Game, Jermaine Haley Jr added 20 points on 8-13 shooting. Big man Amir Williams was dominant in the low post, bullying Sudbury's soft front court for 19 points off the bench. Terry Thomas scored 11 points moved into sole possession of 10th all-time in regular season career points in the National Basketball League of Canada.
Jaylen Bland led the Five with 30 points despite struggling with his shot. The Sudbury "sniper" shot an ice cold 10-25 on the night and an even colder 6-17 from beyond the arc. Harvard graduate Zena Edosomwan was the only other Five player to score double-digits on the night with 16 points.
