Evansville BlueCats News Release

For Immediate Release:

EVANSVILLE, IN: The Evansville BlueCats of the United Indoor Football League are excited to announce the arrival of some new players to the Evansville BlueCats family.

A defensive lineman, an offensive lineman and a wide receiver have signed on to play for the Evansville BlueCats and will help replenish talent to the roster that has been depleted by injury and players being called up to the NFL and CFL. The players arrived last week and will begin their professional football careers here in Evansville.

Jackson State defensive lineman Deon DeBoise joined the team last week in time to make his debut against the Tupelo FireAnts this past Friday night. DeBoise is 6'1" 320 pound lineman from Shuqualak, Mississippi. DeBoise played football from 2000-2004 for the Jackson State Tigers and was defensive team captain his senior season. He earned first team all SWAC in two different seasons. In one game against North Carolina A&T, DeBoise recorded 13 tackles, and 6 tackles for a loss. DeBoise played high school football for Noxubee County High School, where he was named Conference MVP for defense, and first team all-state.

Another player is 6'5" 290 pound offensive lineman Willie McNeil. McNeil was a four-year starter at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill and recently had a try out with the Buffalo Bills. During his career at UNC, McNeil started at both right and left tackle and played for two bowl teams. As a freshman he started at right tackle for UNC in the 2001 Peach Bowl victory over Auburn and also started for the Tar Heels in their 2004 Continental Tire Bowl appearance. Originally from Wagram, North Carolina, McNeil was a two-time all conference selection at Scotland County High School. He also earned All-Cape Fear Region and All-Piedmont Area honors. McNeil will make his first appearance with the BlueCats this Saturday at home against Tupelo.

Wide Receiver Kenny Bell joins the BlueCats after playing collegiate football for Hofstra and Cerritos College in Los Angeles. Bell measures in at 5'11" and tips the scales at 185 pounds. He recently had professional workouts with the Buffalo Bills, Jacksonville Jaguars, and Tennessee Titans. Bell played for Hofstra from 2001-2003 and was a team captain in 2003. Bell played as a kick returner, punt returner, and slot receiver and played for the Hofstra team that won the Atlantic 10 championship in 2001. He missed several games with a hand injury as a senior. From 1998-2000 Bell played for Cerritos College in Los Angeles where he holds the school record for longest pass reception at 91 yards and he played for the Cerritos Falcons team that won the Strawberry Bowl in 2000. In 1999 he was the #1 ranked kick returner in the conference. He averaged over 100 yards receiving and 1 touchdown per game primarily playing as the slot receiver and occasionally as a wide out. In high school he played for Gahr High School in Los Angeles. While playing for the Gladiators, he was named all league 2 years, played in the 605 All-Star game, and the Down Under Bowl All-Star game in Australia. He received Prep Star All-Region honors as a junior and Prep Star All-American Honorable Mention honors as a senior. In one game vs. Monrovia High School he caught 3 touchdown receptions and had 2 kick return touchdowns. Bell will make his first appearance for the BlueCats against the FireAnts this Saturday night.

The Evansville BlueCats next game is this coming Saturday, July 2nd, when the team returns home to Roberts Stadium and welcomes the Tupelo FireAnts.

Saturday's game is Evansville's final regular season home game for 2005 and will be "Fan Appreciation Night". Evansville will clinch a playoff spot with a victory.
