The BlueCats were idle last weekend. Evansville's last game was back on June 4th when the BlueCats lost 29-22 at Tennessee Valley. The BlueCats currently rank in second place in the UIF South Division behind Lexington.
Sioux City enters the game with a 3 game winning streak. Last weekend Sioux City was on the road and defeated the Peoria Rough Riders 43-20. Sioux City is in first place in the UIF North Division.
Sioux City and Evansville rank as the top two teams in the league in Total Offense. The Bandits average 249.5 yards per game and the BlueCats average 238.7 yards per game.
The BlueCats and Bandits also dominate the UIF's Rushing Offense category. Sioux City averages 113 rushing yards compared to Evansville averaging 109.5 yards per game. The next closest team is Fort Wayne with 92.2 rushing yards a game.
The Bandits offense is led by running back Fred Jackson who ranks first in the league in Scoring, Rushing Yards, and All-Purpose yards. Jackson also ranks 6th in kick return average.
Evansville's offensive rushing load is shared by running backs Dale Jennings and Otis Shannon. Jennings has rushed for 516 yards and 15 touchdowns and Shannon has a total 464 yards and 13 touchdowns. Both backs are averaging 51.6 rushing yards per game.
Otis Shannon is also the BlueCats leading kick returner averaging 16.9 yards per return and ran one back for a touchdown against Omaha.
This Saturday's game will be the first ever meeting between Evansville and Sioux City.
Coach Guidry said, "They (Sioux City) have put up pretty good numbers all year. They do well in all three phases of the game. Fred Jackson is one of their star players and he does a lot on offense and he's a big pat of their special teams. Defensively they have a good secondary that's capable of a lot of man coverage. Their success in all three phases of the game is a big reason why they're having such a great season. They don't have a lot of breakdowns. We're going to have to go in and contain their big players and keep their production to a minimum on Saturday and we'll be fine."
Be sure to tune in to ESPN Radio 94.9 to catch the Evansville BlueCats as they take on the Sioux City Bandits this Saturday, June 18th, kickoff is at 7:05pm.
