BlueCats Defeat Rough Riders

EVANSVILLE, IN: The Evansville BlueCats returned home victorious from their game against the Peoria this past weekend, defeating the Rough Riders 37-13 in Peoria. The BlueCats jumped out to a 13-0 first half lead behind two touchdown passes from quarterback Kewan Dewberry. Wide Receivers Levander Segars and Sean Bennett scored on touchdowns of 27 and 30 yards respectively. The teams entered the locker room at halftime all tied 13-13, but the second half was all BlueCats as Evansville ran off 24 unanswered points to finish the game. The win improves the BlueCats to (2-4) on the season.

Dale Jennings led the way for the BlueCats offense with 92 all-purpose yards in the game. Jennings had 24 yards receiving, had one kick return for 23 yards, and rushed for a season-high 45 yards against Peoria. He also ran for two touchdowns giving him 11 on the season, tied for third most touchdowns in the league.

Sean Bennett was the leading receiver for Evansville, catching 4 passes for 65 yards and a touchdown. Levron Williams added 3 catches for 25 yards.

The BlueCats quarterbacks split time in the huddle on offense. Kewan Dewberry was 7-15 for 93 yards, 2 touchdowns and one interception. Newcomer Aaron Leak made his debut with the team under center in the second half and finished the game 4-8 passing for 51 yards.

The BlueCats defense shut down the Rough Riders offense, particularly in the passing game. Peoria quarterback Ricky Williams was only 4-17 during the game. As a team, BlueCats held Peoria to only 18 net yards passing. The league's leading tackler John Winchester had 9 tackles, a forced fumble, and a pass break up. Safety Vernon Turner added 7 tackles and a fumble recovery. Joel Stubblefield had 2.5 tackles for loss, including 1.5 sacks. Lineman Brad Kunz blocked a field goal attempt in the 3rd quarter, his third blocked kick of the season.

This week the BlueCats will be on the road again when they travel to face the division leading Lexington Horsemen (6-0) at Rupp Arena. Kickoff is scheduled for Sunday, May 13th, at 6:30pm (Evansville time). Last week, the Lexington Horsemen defeated the Sioux City Bandits (3-4) 30-20 in Sioux City, Iowa.

Kickoff for Saturday's game is scheduled for 6:30pm. BlueCats road games can be heard on ESPN Radio 94.9.
