Blue Sox sign Lipscomb standouts Pryor and Korte HOLYOKE, Mass.-The Blue Sox have added two more players to the roster with the signing of Lipscomb pitcher John Pryor and second baseman Mike Korte, Team President Clark Eckhoff announced today.
Pryor, a freshman left-hander, has made four appearances, with two starts, and has a 1-0 record with a 4.80 ERA in 15 innings for the Bisons this season. He has struck out 20 batters and held opponents to a .216 average. In his senior year at Minnehaha Academy in St. Paul, Minnesota, Pryor posted a school-record 0.23 ERA and struck out 109 batters as part of a Section 4AA championship team.
"Pryor is one of the top up-and-coming freshman pitchers in the country, and as a lefty he provides a little something different that we lacked last year with an almost exclusively right handed staff," said Eckhoff.
Korte, a junior, is batting .300 with 18 hits in 60 at-bats, and has walked 16 times to just seven strikeouts. He transferred to Lipscomb from Indian River State CC, where he was National Junior College Defensive Player of the Year and was named an American Baseball Coaches Associations/Rawlings NJCAA Gold Glove Award winner.
"We found Korte because of his glove," Eckhoff said. "Obviously, we had some issues defensively last year and being strong up the middle is key, so as we're trying to build our team a player like him who was NJCAA Defensive Player of the Year is exactly what we're looking for."
