Blue Sox Extend Winning Streak against Schooners, 7-5
June 18, 2012 - New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL)
Valley Blue Sox News Release
It's official.
The Holyoke Blue Sox have pieced together something that was hard to find in the early stages of the season - a sustainable winning streak.
Holyoke (5-5) has now pieced together a three-game winning streak, with wins against Mystic, North Adams and now Mystic again for the second time in three games.
Despite a late rally, the Schooners (1-8) were unable to overcome a seven-run deficit in a 7-5 loss on Monday night.
The Blue Sox utilized a single and took advantage of a wild pitch in the first inning to give their starter Nathan Harsh some comfort when he took over on the bump.
Harsh (1-0) put on a show going seven and one-third innings, allowing five runs on six hits, walked three and struck out six in his first win of the 2012 campaign.
With Harsh firing on all cylinders, not allowing those five runs until the bottom of the eighth inning, the Blue Sox took advantage tacking on run after run.
In the third inning, Jorden Keur connected for a solo home run, his second of the year, making it 3-0 Holyoke.
With a three-run lead in hand, Connor McKay doubled in Max Pentecost in the fourth inning, and McKay touched home plate after an Adam Norton single, extending the Blue Sox lead to 5-0.
Holyoke would be able to hold on, despite the offensive outburst by the Schooners, the Blue Sox held on for the 7-5 win and extended their winning streak to three.
Blue Sox will have a chance to keep the winning was rolling and go above .500 for only the second time this season as they face the Vermont Mountaineers on Wednesday at MacKenzie Stadium with first pitch set for 6;30 p.m.
