The Holyoke Blue Sox (1-0) beat the Great Britain (0-4) 5-2 in seven innings on Thursday at MacKenzie Stadium behind Max Pentecost, who went 2-2.
He doubled in the first inning and singled in the fifth inning.The Great Britain had no answer for Jhonneris Mendez, who kept runners off the base pads in his appearance. Mendez held the Great Britain hitless over two innings, allowed no earned runs, walked one and struck out three.
Kyle Rubbinaccio got the win for the Holyoke Blue Sox. He tossed one inning of shutout ball. Rubbinaccio struck out two, walked none and gave up no hits.
B. Pearson (0-1) was the game's losing pitcher. He lasted just six innings, walked three, struck out three, and allowed five runs.
