Valley Blue Sox News Release

HOLYOKE, Mass.--The players who spent last season in a Blue Sox uniform have gone back to their colleges, but they have not stopped having an impact on the field.

Junior first baseman Sal Annunziata was named Big East Player of the Week for his performance for Seton Hall University during the week ending February 24. Annunziata went 7-for-13 in three games, including scoring five runs and adding six RBI, and five of his seven hits were doubles, as Seton Hall swept Richmond.

Junior third baseman Brendan Hendriks went 1-for-4 Sunday for the University of San Francisco, but it was a big one: he tripled in the winning run in the seventh inning against Sacramento State; he also drew a walk and scored twice. He is currently third on his team in slugging percentage with a .467, with five doubles, a triple, and a home run.

Junior center fielder Jacob Bruce had four hits in a three-game series for Kennesaw State University from February 28 to March 1, with a pair of two-hit games with two RBI and a run scored as well as a double in each contest against Jacksonville State. At present, he is batting .345 on twenty hits in fifty-eight at-bats.

Senior shortstop Matt Reida reached base four times March 1 for the University of Kentucky against Eastern Michigan in a doubleheader, going 1-for-4 with three walks and scoring two runs while plating two other batters.

Senior pitcher/infielder Michael Burke tossed eight innings of six hit, one run ball Saturday against Maryland-Eastern Shore in a University of Buffalo win. He fanned nine batters over the course of the game.

Sophomore pitcher Jordan Hillyer picked up a win February 28 for Kennesaw State against Jacksonville State, and in seven innings of work allowed just one unearned run on three hits with seven strikeouts. He has not allowed an earned run in either of his last two starts for the Owls.
