Greeneville Astros News Release

Bluefield, WV - The Bluefield Blue Jays took an early lead on the Greeneville Astros on Tuesday night and never let go on their way to a 5-1 win despite being outhit by the Astros nine to six. With the victory, the Blue Jays took the series win. However, they will face the Astros again in the season finale series in Greeneville at the end of August.

In the first inning, Bluefield had two outs with a runner on first. A hit batter and wild pitch put the two base runners at second and third. Then, Seth Connor doubled on a line drive to right field to score both.

Two innings later, in the third, Bluefield plated two more runs. With a walk, a missed pickoff attempt, a single from Dwight Smith and another wild pitch, the Blue Jays had runners at second and third again with two outs. Then, Connor struck once more with a two-run single on a line drive to left field.

The Astros, with two outs in the fifth inning, got a double from D'Andre Toney to get a runner in scoring position. Toney then scored when Brian Blasik reached on a fielding error from Bluefield to cut the Blue Jays lead to 4-1. However, the Astros never came any closer.

In the eighth inning, the Blue Jays added one more run for insurance. Bluefield got a leadoff triple from Christian Lopes, who then scored on a RBI single by Dwight Smith.

Justin James (2-0) got the win for Bluefield after pitching 1.1 hitless innings in relief of Blue Jays starter Kevin Comer.

The Astros will return home on Wednesday against the Kingsport Mets as they begin a six-game homestand. For more information on the Greeneville Astros, please visit www.greenevilleastros.com or call (423) 638-0411.
