Brevard Blue Ducks News Release
Melbourne, FL â When the air conditioning went down Sunday night, it got hot in the Clemente Center. Very hot. But not quite as hot as the Brevard Blue Ducks must have been feeling, as they fought their way to their second victory in a row to start the 2005 season.
Leading 54-47 at the half, Brevard broke open a close game with a 24â13 third quarter to take a 78 to 60 lead. The Ducks increased their lead to 25 early in the fourth, before holding off a furious rally by Next Level. The All-Star team based out of West Palm Beach and boasting players such as the University of Kentucky's Desmond Allison, cut the lead to just six points with 53 seconds left in the final period, before a resounding dunk by Mark Christian, Jr. stopped the bleeding and enabled Brevard to hold on for the win in front of 1,028 fans. Next Level's Chad Townsend (Murray State) led the fourth quarter charge with 18 of his team high 30 points in the period.
The Ducks once again had a balanced attack, placing five players in double figures, led by Cocoa's Corey Evans with 18. Mark Christian chipped in with 16 and had 5 steals. Point guard Anthony Slater had another strong game, dishing out 9 assists. The diminutive player also managed a team-high 8 rebounds.
There will not be much rest for the team as they play again Tuesday night. This time against the Florida All-Stars â a team that has been together as a group for several years and boasts a record of 48-2 in their last 50 games, playing under a different moniker - Dynasty - as a traveling team representing 102 Jamz radio out of Orlando.
