June 11, 2005 - United States Basketball League (USBL)
Brevard Blue Ducks News Release
Melbourne, FL â The wait for a new season was excruciating. Almost two months after their USBL campaign should have started, the Blue Ducks finally began their fourth season in Brevard. But the wait was well worth it â as the Blue Ducks, behind 29 points by Mark Christian, Jr. battered Orlando FastBreak, USA 120-108 in front of 1,522 energetic fans at the 1,800-seat Clemente Center in Melbourne last night.
"I can not describe how anxious I was about the game," commented team owner, Mike Richman. "But I couldn't be more proud of our team...or the fans. They showed up in numbers and were loud and with us all the way. They really gave us a home court advantage and allowed us to open the season with a win."
Head coach, Nate "Tiny" Archibald wasn't as easily pleased. "We need to get stronger on some of our offensive sets," lamented the NBA Hall of Famer. "Our defense was great though."
Returning point guard Anthony Slater led a balanced attack, handing out 11 assists as six Blue Ducks players scored in double figures. John Lamers and Adrian Malcom chipped in with 15 points apiece, while Earl Hines tallied 14 along with a team-high 10 rebounds.
Orlando was paced by Fred Wilson's 21.
The Ducks hope to build on their opening night victory as they take on Next Level Sports Sunday at 5:00 PM at the Clemente Center.
