Brevard Blue Ducks News Release
Melbourne, Florida â The Brevard Blue Ducks played Tuesday night in a game that was definitely a rough contest for them. But they'll be playing a game soon that their head coach, Robert Reid pretty much guarantees will be a victory for his USBL basketball squad, as the team will take on 4th and 5th graders at Westside Elementary School on April 30th.
That will be one of several appearances the team will be making throughout Brevard County during its upcoming home stands in April and May.
"We love to visit kids in the community," said Ducks owner, Mike Richman. "It's why I brought the team here in the first place. To entertain and educate kids."
Here's a rundown of some of the Blue Ducks community visits:
Thursday, April 29th â 3:30-5:00 PM â The Blue Ducks will participate in a Student vs. Faculty basketball game at Rockledge High School as part of their "Relay for Life" team to raise money for the American Cancer Society. The event is open to the public. Rockledge High School is located at 220 Raider Road in Rockledge. Tickets for the game are $2.00. For more information, contact Peggy Paine at 636-3711.
Friday, April 30th â 12:50-2:10 PM - Westside Elementary School.
Monday, May 3rd â 1:00-3:30 PM â Tour of Indian River Hospital in Vero Beach.
Monday, May 24th â 2:00-3:30 PM - The Blue Ducks will appear at the West Melbourne Library on Minton Road, where they will read books to kids, share their favorite stories and show a little of their basketball magic.
The Blue Ducks recently began their third year of USBL action at the Clemente Center at Florida Tech in Melbourne. They continue their current home stand with games May 4th (Florence) and May 5th and 7th (Pennsylvania). The latter marking Darryl "Chocolate Thunder" Dawkins first visit to Brevard this year.
