Brevard Blue Ducks News Release
Melbourne, Florida â The Brevard Blue Ducks in conjunction with 107.1 WA1A will be holding their second annual DuckFest pre-season event at the Clemente Center at Florida Tech in Melbourne on Saturday, April 10th.
Designed as a family fun day, DuckFest will allow Blue Ducks fans to come and check out the 2004 team in action, meet the Blue Chicks dance squad, hang out with team mascot "Dunkan the Duck" and compete in a variety of contests and games.
It will take place between 1:00 and 5:00 PM on Saturday, April 10th. In addition to contests, there will be games for kids and live entertainment. Admission and parking are free.
Blue Ducks tickets for all games will be available at a discount as well.
"We thought it would be great to have a pre-season event and give our fans a chance to meet the players, the dancers and take part in fun activities, all while giving them a view of our beautiful facility at the Clemente Center," said Ducks owner, Mike Richman.
Held in the middle of the Blue Ducks pre-season veteran's camp, the event kicks off with an intra-squad basketball game, which is free to the public. The Blue Chicks will perform at half-time. After the game, the Blue Ducks players and the Blue Chicks dance squad will meet fans and sign autographs.
Then the fun starts. The Blue Ducks will hold tryouts for Brevard residents interested in performing at Blue Ducks home games, holding an "American Idol" type audition both for national anthem singers and then for half-time entertainment acts. A panel of celebrity judges will be on hand, including disc jockeys from the 107.1 WA1A morning show, who will vote on the winners, who will then perform at actual Blue Ducks games.
The evening culminates in two basketball skills contests. Blue Ducks players will stage a slam-dunk competition, followed by a 3-point shooting contest. Then the crowd gets in the act, with kids welcomed to join their own shooting contest. Prizes will be given out to the winners â including tickets to the Blue Ducks opening night on April 22nd against the Florence Flyers.
