Brevard Blue Ducks News Release
Enid, Oklahoma â It was a bad night for Blue Ducks â whether they were in Oklahoma or Nevada.
About the same time part-time Blue Duck and full-time boxer Roy Jones, Jr. was getting knocked out by Antonio Tarver in Las Vegas, the Blue Ducks were getting KO'd 1100 miles away in Enid Oklahoma, by the Oklahoma Storm.
After a brief exchange of punches in the second round of the light-heavyweight title bout at the Mirage hotel, Tarver caught Jones with an overhand left that knocked the champion to the floor for the first time in his career. Jones never saw it coming.
If only it had been that quick for the Blue Ducks.
Oklahoma used a 26-18 second quarter and a 25-17 fourth quarter to slowly bludgeon the Ducks, who are winless so far on their Midwest trip.
James Penny led Oklahoma with 26 points and Lamont Turner totaled 21. Brevard lost despite placing four players in double figures. The Ducks were paced by Nat Burton with 20 points. Tony Bland netted 18, Tony Harris and Rob Brown each finished with 17.
At least Jones will get some time off to think and recuperate before his next bout. The Blue Ducks are not so fortunate, as they will have to pick themselves off the canvas quickly and travel to Dodge City today to take on the Legend tonight.
DUCK NOTES: The Blue Ducks will begin a 6-game, 10-day homestand immediately upon their return from the Midwest. It begins with games against the Brooklyn Kings Friday night and Sunday, followed by John Starks and the Westchester Wildfire the 26th and 28th.
Former Florida Gator, Teddy Dupay is expected to make his return from the injured list on Friday. With his fight behind him, the Ducks look forward to Roy Jones returning as well. No word yet on a date for his return to Brevard.
