Brevard Blue Ducks News Release

Melbourne, FL - Not one person of the 892 in attendance at the Blue Ducks game had an inkling as to the kind of onslaught they would witness inside the Clemente Center last night. Not at the beginning of the contest, which saw the visiting team take a quick 5-point lead. Nor at the end of the first stanza, which ended deadlocked at 27-27, only due to a last-second Norris Anderson steal and lay-up.

Perhaps when the Ducks used 10-0 and 12-0 runs in the second quarter to go up at half-time by 15, 62-47.

This was no way to treat a visiting team who obliged the Ducks by being a last-minute replacement for a West Virginia squad that never made it to the game.

Then again, when Next Level went on its own 14-0 run in the third, it appeared the contest would be close. It was still a 6-point game with 4:35 left in the period. A 7-point game with a little over 2 minutes to go.

Then the flood gates opened. As has been their custom all season, the Ducks used their trapping defense to force turnover after turnover. That, coupled with a tired Next Level team that dressed only eight players, resulted in easy transition baskets for Brevard. But not just baskets....dunks. Many of them. Powerful ones. Thundering ones. One after another. On a night when the Ducks most powerful ally, Thunderstix, was in full force, one could hardly hear them as most of the thunderous sounds echoing in the gym came from the powerful dunks slammed down one after another. First, by Mark Christian....then Darell Johnson....then Paul Pardue....then Shawn Conley.

When it was over, the Blue Duck set five franchise records:

Most points ever scored in a game, 140 Most points scored in a quarter (4th), 55 Largest margin of victory ever, 41 Most players placed in double figures in scoring, 7 Most forced turnovers, 37

Reserve Reed Tompkins led the balanced attack, scoring a team-high 18 points. John Lamers was the Ducks leading rebounder with 9 boards and Anthony Slater had another strong game, dishing out 11 assists.

Next Level was led by Mark Hadden with 26 points, on 11 for 24 shooting. Terrence Newby added 14 rebounds.

The Blue Ducks play again Sunday at 5:00 PM in a Father's Day contest that will feature free admission for all dads.

For tickets, call (321) 751-BLUE or visit the website at www.BrevardBlueDucks.com. Tickets are also available at the Clemente Center box office which opens an hour before game time.
