Blazers Best Stealth 11-9 for Fifth Win of Season
February 27, 2010 - National Lacrosse League (NLL) News Release
BOSTON - Brenden Thenhaus and Dan Dawson scored three times each as the Boston Blazers won a tightly contested 11-9 game over the Washington Stealth, who entered the game with a league-leading 6-2 record. Neither team led by more than one goal until the Blazers took the final two-goal advantage with less than two minutes remaining in the game. The victory pushes Boston's record to 5-4 and puts them in a tie for third place in the East Conference.
Dawson and Thenhaus each notched a power-play goal and two assists in the first half to put the Blazers ahead 5-4 at halftime. The teams continued to trade shots throughout the second half - neither put together more than a two-goal run - as the Blazers held off Washington and league-leading scorer Jeff Zywicki.
With the score knotted at 9-9 halfway through the fourth quarter, Dawson put away two diving shots in a four-minute span to put Boston on top for good.
Anthony Cosmo made 44 saves in holding his opponents to a single-digit scoring total for the fifth time this season. Tyler Richards stopped 52 shots for Washington.
Dawson and Thenhaus' three goals led all scorers on the night, and Lewis Ratcliff, Tom Johnson, and Rhys Duch each scored two for the Stealth.
The Blazers return to the Garden on March 13th to face off against the Buffalo Bandits.
