Atlanta Blaze News Release
ATLANTA, GA - The Atlanta Blaze defeated the Dallas Rattlers 13-11 in a physical matchup that remained close to the end. A ferocious attack, led by Bryan Cole and Randy Staats, helped the Blaze to score consistently throughout that game while connecting on 54% of their shots on goal. The defense was great throughout the game as Chris Madalon stood tall in the crease, holding the Rattlers offense to 34% shooting as the Blaze took command of the game, from the opening faceoff until the final whistle of the game.
Facing his former team, Randy Staats made a statement early by opening up the scoring with 9:25 left in the first quarter. He continued his first half dominance with one goal and three assists, including some highlight passes to teammates Shayne Jackson and Bryan Cole.
The Blaze felt dangerous from all parts of the field, leading the Rattlers to an 8-6 halftime score. However, halftime adjustments from Dallas kept them in the game as they remained down by two until an impressive effort from Matt Whitcher pushed the score to 11-8 with 3:05 left in the third quarter.
Head Coach Liam Banks acknowledged the firepower on the 2019 roster ahead of today's game. "There are young guys playing really well and our vets are being good leaders," Banks raved.
The Blaze have averaged 15 goals through their first three games- putting up 14,16, and 13 goals in their respective matchups. With a talented support cast behind them there are no signs of this offense slowing.
"When we play, we focus on having success together." Player of the game Bryan Cole said after tallying four goals and one assist. "The more we spread the ball, the more weapons we add to the team."
Atlanta finishes its three game home stretch at 2-1 while the Rattlers remain winless in the early season. Dallas still looks to notch one in the win column, despite leading the Blaze in shots on goals, turnovers, time of possession and faceoffs.
The Blaze will travel to Annapolis, MD to take on the Chesapeake Bayhawks, on June 29th and July 6th before returning home to Grady Stadium on July 7th to faceoff against the New York Lizards.
