Atlanta Blaze News Release
KENNESAW- For the final game of the Atlanta Blaze season, the Blaze traveled to Boston, Massachussetts to play the Boston Cannons in Harvard Stadium on August 5th at 6pm EST. Though the Blaze were at a huge deficit in the beginning of the game, they came back to top the Cannons in both teams' last showings of 2017.
Adam Ghitelman started in goal for the Blaze and Brent Hiken took the faceoff. The Cannons scored the first five goals with no response from the Blaze, and the quarter ended 2-7 with the Cannons at an advantage. Scott Ratliff had a two-pointer that was the Blaze's only goal of the first quarter.
In the second quarter the Blaze outscored the Cannons 5-1, and Kevin Rice, captain and one of a handful of original Blaze players from the first game left on the squad netted his 100th point in an Atlanta Blaze uniform. Also notable in this quarter, which ended 7-8, was Brian Sherlock, a rookie for the Blaze, who scored two goals.
The third quarter ended 14-11 and saw a more confident Blaze offense, which resulted in seven goals as well as Kevin Rice's first two-point goal. Graeme Hossack also saw offensive play in this quarter as he put up a two point goal in addition to an assist to Rice.
The Blaze maintained their lead in the fourth quarter, ending 18-16. This will fuel the Blaze in the off season and points to an explosive start in the 2018 season.
Kevin Rice was named Coca Cola Player of the Game, and a play between Kevin Rice, Tom Moore, and John Uppgren was named Play of the Game.
