Bakersfield Blaze News Release

Bakersfield, CA Mar 23, 2005 Bakersfield, CA--The Bakersfield Blaze will be holding open auditions for the singing of the National Anthem and Take Me Out to the Ballgame during the 2005 season. Tryouts will be held at Historic Sam Lynn Ballpark on Saturday, April 2nd. Auditions will begin at 10:00 a.m. and finish around 1:00 p.m. Beginning at 2:00 p.m. and ending at 4:00 p.m. on the same day the Blaze will hold open auditions for the Public Address announcer position.

The National Anthem auditions are open to all participants ten (10) years of age or older. Winners will be selected from the competition to sing (or play) the National Anthem before each game and Take Me Out to the Ballgame during the 7th inning of all Blaze games from the press box. There are 69 home games to be played at Historic Sam Lynn Ballpark on Chester Avenue. At the tryouts, participants must sing the national anthem a cappella (without music). Participants playing an instrument must perform solo. Individuals or groups are permitted to try out. Performers will receive up to six general admission tickets for family members for the game(s) they are selected to perform at.

"This will be the first time we have held an open audition for these positions and we are looking forward to the variety of talent we will undoubtedly see and hear," said Blaze Assistant General Manager, and the radio voice, Brian Thomas. "We look forward to having the best talent Kern County has to offer performing at Blaze games in 2005."

The Blaze P.A. position will be filled by a candidate 18 years of age or older from the audition process. This individual must have a strong knowledge of baseball, a great attitude, and good communication skills.

"Our P.A. person will be the voice of the Blaze at Historic Sam Lynn Ballpark, as much as I will be on the airwaves, so we need to have someone with the enthusiasm and knowledge to give our fans the best possible experience" Thomas continued. "This is a season long commitment and will be a lot of fun for the person chosen for the job. We get the best of both worlds, American Idol and Dream Job all on the same day!"

The Bakersfield Blaze is the new Class-A Affiliate of the Texas Rangers. The Blaze home opener is April 15th against Visalia, and the regular season runs through September 4th. Ticket packages and sponsorships are available by calling 661-716-HITS (4487).
