Utah Blaze News Release

SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah Blaze join DAVID ZABRISKIE, the third American ever to wear the yellow jersey in the Tour de France, with "Bikes For Kids Utah" event to give 1,000 bicycles to 1,000 underprivileged children on Saturday, September 30 at 10:30 a.m. The Blaze mascot "Chief" will join Utah Governor JON HUNTSMAN in giving out the first bicycle.

Bikes For Kids Utah is a non-profit organization formed in 2006. The organization provides underprivileged children with free bicycles as an inexpensive and fun way to get to school, a hobby that helps them get some exercise and a way for them to learn responsibility and safety.

In its first annual fundraising year, proceeds will provide 1,000 new bicycles (along with helmets, t-shirts and locks) to a pre-selected group of children throughout the Salt Lake Valley. Proceeds are accrued through corporate and individual sponsorships, a dinner and silent auction.

For this year Bikes For Kids are working with Boys & Girls Clubs of Murray, the Guadalupe School and Rose Park Elementary. If your organization or child would like to be considered, contact Sharyle Karren at sharyle@bikes4kidsutah.org

The Utah Blaze were winners of the 2006 Commissioner's Award, given to the Arena Football League's Organization of the Year, and the Best Support Staff Award. The Blaze led the AFL in attendance and qualified for the postseason in just their first season. Season tickets for the 2007 are now available by logging onto www.utahblaze.com or by calling the Blaze ticket office at (801) 257-3111.
