Bakersfield Blaze News Release
BAKERSFIELD, CA- The Bakersfield Blaze Baseball Club announced that they will once again broadcast the entire 140 game schedule on KGEO 1230 AM in 2006. The Blaze returned to the radio, and KGEO, in 2005 after being off the air in 2004.
"After having a great season of Blaze broadcasts in 2005, we knew the importance of continuing to bring Blaze baseball to the airwaves, and specifically KGEO for another year" said Blaze General Manager Chris Bitters. "We enjoy our relationship with the folks at American General Media and KGEO radio, and are excited to continue it for another season."
"The Blaze is an important part of our commitment to bring the best in local and regional sports to the radio in Kern County" stated Roger Fessler, General Manager of American General Media. "It was great getting the Blaze back on the air in 2005, and we continue to be excited about being a part of Blaze baseball."
The team also announced former Blaze Assistant General Manager Brian Thomas, who resigned from the team in early January, will return to the club as the Director of Broadcasting and Media Relations, and will handle all radio play-by-play duties for the 2006 season. 2006 will mark Thomas' ninth season with the Blaze and fourth in the broadcast booth, as he handled the play-by play duties in 2005, and shared those duties in 2002 and 2003.
"I guess you really can come back home again" Thomas said. "I am genuinely excited about getting the opportunity to continue my career in sports broadcasting, with my hometown team. This has always been a dream of mine, and I can't thank the Blaze enough for allowing me to continue to live it."
