Chicago Blaze News Release
Friday night's game at West Meadows Arena didn't start the way the Blaze wanted it to but it certainly ended the way they liked. The Blaze fell behind 3-0 to the Chi-Town Shooters before firing back with four unanswered goals of their own to win 4-3 and stay unbeaten and in first place in the young AAHL season.
After smoldering in the first period and giving up 3 straight, the Blaze seemed to finally gain momentum at the 15:10 mark of the second period when winger James Brooks dropped the gloves with Shooter Blake Reilly. Obviously sparking his team, only 36 seconds later center Pat Lee finally put the Blaze on the board with his first of the game.
When asked about turning the momentum in his team's favor Brooks said; "it was a great comeback win, things seem to be coming together. The team is gelling, however we still have a lot to work on. Tomorrow we'll be better." Defenseman Mark Hammersmith who was playing his first game after starting the season on injured reserve had a slightly different take on what turned the game around, "the biggest thing is the fans, they got so loud after the fight and the goal."
NOTES: The Blaze continue to get offense from the Blue Line as Joe Pace had 2 assists and Kyryll Katrych had 1. Kyle Thompson had another strong game for the Blaze killing penalties and forcing the play on the forecheck, he also added an assist. The Blaze scored while down a man, at even strength, and on the power play. The Blaze outshot Chi-Town 37-35. The Blaze next game is Halloween Night at 7 pm against the Madison Ice Muskies; tickets are $8 for adults and $5 for children.
