Blaze Sign New Defenseman and Forward

The Bloomington Blaze, fueled by Mid-Illini Credit Union, have signed defenseman Michael Trebish and forward Jared Walker to represent the Blaze for the 2012-13 season.

Michael Trebish contributed four years for Ferris State University in Michigan. Ice hockey is the only Ferris program which competes at the NCAA Division I level, while all others are played at a Division II level.

The Yorkton, Saskatchewan native during his senior year season appeared in 22 games for the Bulldogs and contributed 40 penalty minutes along with one assist.

Forward Jared Walker, who is also beginning his professional hockey career with the Blaze, collected 19 points (8 goals, 11 assists) during his 2011-12 campaign for the University of Manitoba Bisons. He also racked up 51 penalty minutes.

Walker, native to Winnipeg, Manitoba, preserved a +14 plus/minus rating with the Bisons. The University of Manitoba is part of the CWUAA (Canada West University Athletic Association), which synchronizes competition between Canadian university athletic programs.

Head Coach Brian Gratz says the Blaze rookies are ready for the pro game. "Michael is a good skating defenseman that plays a physical game," Gratz said. "With a good shot and strong defensive game he should transition well to the pro game."

"Jared is coming off a strong college career at the University of Manitoba," Gratz continued. "He possesses good size and skill and is a physical presence in the corners and the net front. We look forward to him making an impact this upcoming season."
