Blaze Send Two to Mallards Camp

Rolling Meadows - The Chicago Blaze are please to announce that defenseman Joe Pace and goaltending prospect Jon Smarsh have been invited to attend the Quad City Mallards training camp. The Mallards are members of the AA International Hockey League. The camp which begins Sunday October 4th is being held at the Iwireless Center Arena in Moline, Illinois.

The 25 year old Pace, a native of Schaumburg, Illinois was recently signed to a contract by the Blaze after playing last season with the Flint Generals in the AA International Hockey League. The 5'11", 190 Pace is excited about returning home to play pro hockey and is welcoming the challenge of attending the Mallards camp after seeing AA time in Flint last season. About his projected number one defenseman owner Aaron Mattey states, "Joe Pace brings that professional experience and maturity we need and the leadership we were looking for. He no doubt has experience to play at the AA level and I am sure he will represent himself well and make an impression in Quad City".

Blaze goaltending prospect Jon Smarsh will also attend the Mallards camp. At 6'1", 175, the native of Geneva, Illinois will be one of four goalies hoping to impress the QC brass. The 20 year old has recently signed a training camp agreement with the Blaze, and is scheduled to attend training camp the week of October 12th.

All the Blaze players take to the ice on October 12th as training camp officially opens at West Meadows Arena. Fans can meet the players as all sessions are free and open to the public.
