Blaze Players Lead Field in 2019 MLL Honor Nominations

Major League Lacrosse had announced its shortlist for the 2019 fan vote for end of season awards and several Blaze players have been named as finalists! The voting poll will be open on the MLL website until September 20th at 5 PM. The winners will be announced at the 2019 Honors Award Show presented by New Balance on October 5th at Union Station in Denver. Make sure to vote for your favorite Blaze players- Atlanta leads the league with 9 candidates up for awards.

Head Coach Liam Banks has been named a finalist for Tito's Coach of the Year. In his second year with the Blaze, Banks has led his team to an 8-6 Record- a new Blaze single-season win record. With Coach Banks at the helm, Atlanta has clinched the first postseason berth in Blaze franchise history.

Defenseman Liam Byrnes has been nominated for Warrior Defensive Player of the Year in his second season with the Blaze. Byrnes currently leads the league with 26 caused turnovers and is third among non FOGOs with 54 groundballs collected in 14 games played. Byrnes has been named Warrior Defensive Player of the Week in both Weeks 5 and 14.

Midfielder Bryan Cole has been nominated for both Coca-Cola Most Valuable Player and New Balance Offensive Player of the Year. Cole has been a scoring machine for the Blaze, ranking fourth in the league with 36 goals scored through 14 games played. His 49 points and 36 goals lead Major League Lacrosse for all non-attackmen.

Attackman Shayne Jackson has been nominated for both Coca-Cola Most Valuable Player and New Balance Offensive Player of the Year. Jackson leads the Blaze with 55 points and is second in the league with 40 goals scored- a Blaze single-season record.

Goalkeeper Chris Madalon has been nominated for Warrior Goalie of the Year. Madalon boasts a 51.21% save percentage and leads the league with 190 saves while starting every game for the Blaze this year. He had 20+ saves in back-to-back games in late June, with his 21-save performance June 29th at the Chesapeake Bayhawks earning him Warrior Defensive Player of the Week honors.

Attackman Tommy Palasek has been named a finalist for New Balance Offensive Player of the Year. Palasek has collected 53 points for the Blaze is second in the league with 30 assists- trailing only Blaze teammate Randy Staats.

Attackman Randy Staats has been nominated for both Coca-Cola Most Valuable Player and New Balance Offensive Player of the Year. Randy Staats has served as a facilitator for the potent Blaze offense, totaling 50 points and leading the league with 33 assists in just 10 games played. His 3.3 assists per game leads Major League Lacrosse.

Both in their first years out of Towson, attackman Brendan Sunday and faceoff specialist Alex Woodall have been named as finalists for the Cascade Rookie of the Year award.

Brendan Sunday has racked up 32 points on 21 goals and 11 assists in a successful rookie year in which he was named to the 2019 All-Star game. Sunday had 4 goals, including the game-winner, and 1 assist in the MLL All-Star Game.

Alex Woodall has been a revelation for the Blaze at faceoff and already holds the Lifetime Blaze record for faceoffs won (232) and single-season ground balls record (132) through 14 games played.
