Blaze Hires David Huntley as Newest Assistant Coach

Atlanta, Ga. - The Atlanta Blaze of Major League Lacrosse (MLL) announced today David Huntley as Assistant Coach. David will assume his duties immediately after serving as an Assistant Coach with the Chesapeake Bayhawks during the 2015 season.

"We are pleased to announce that David has joined our coaching staff for our inaugural season," said Blaze owner Peter Trematerra. "Adding a coach of his pedigre further enhances our commitment to building a championship caliber team in Atlanta."

David Huntley is the Director of the 2014 World Champion Canadian Men's National Team and the Offensive Coordinator for Calvert Hall HS (MIAA). He coached Canada in the World Championships (5 times), 10 seasons in the NLL and 6 seasons in the MLL. Coach Huntley has won the 2006 World Games and with Mammoth, Bayhawks and Nationals.

"I have always enjoyed working with John and Spencer so when they asked me to come on board it was a very easy decision," said Blaze assistant coach David Huntley. "John, Spencer and Peter put together a terrific expansion draft. It is an exciting foundation of players that will be fun to coach and thrilling to our fans."

During his own playing career, he played college lacrosse for The Johns Hopkins University. While there, he helped his team capture two NCAA Division I Championship titles ('78, '79).  He received first team and second team All-America honors ('77, '79) and the Lt. Donald MacLaughlin award as the nation's top midfielder in 1979. He is currently a member of the All-Time Johns Hopkins Team and the Johns Hopkins Athletic Hall of Fame.  He is a member of the US Lacrosse Hall of Fame, Baltimore Chapter as well as the National US Lacrosse Hall of Fame and the Canadian Lacrosse Hall of Fame.  Huntley played in the 1978 and 1982 World Games for Canada, while helping his team capture the 1978 World Championship.

Huntley lives in Towson, MD with his wife Nancy.  Their son, Kevin and his wife Lucy live in Washington DC, Kevin a former MLL Rookie of the Year. While their daughter, Michelle, works in the energy business in Houston, Texas.

Huntley joins the Blaze as Kevin O'Leary has resigned from his duties as Team President. Kevin served as Team President for the Atlanta Blaze since the franchise began and remained on staff through the MLL Expansion Draft. He has been a huge supporter of not only the team, but also the entire sport and will continue to do so as he moves on. Kevin looks forward to seeing the Atlanta Blaze grow but looks forward to spending more time with his wife and children.
