Atlanta Blaze News Release
The Atlanta Blaze (4-4) fell one point short of a comeback this Saturday against the Boston Cannons (5-2).
Boston started the game with a 5-0 scoring run led by two goals apiece from attackmen Mark Cockerton and Connor O'Hara. After a slow start, Atlanta found its stride with a Tommy Palasek assist to Randy Staats at 6:28 in the first quarter.
The Blaze came to life, using the strong play of attackman Brendan Sunday to fight back into the game. Sunday finished with seven points on four goals and three assists.
Atlanta roared back with seven unanswered goals to bring the score to 9-6 with 3:16 left in the second quarter. Mark Cockerton respond minutes later with a dribbler that got past Chris Madalon. The teams would head into the locker room with a halftime score of 9-7.
Limiting Atlanta to one shot in the third quarter, the Cannons scored 10 straight goals to take a Boston lead 10-17 late in the fourth quarter. However, Dylan Maher scored two two-point goals as the Blaze offense shrunk the lead to one with only a minute left to play.
With a chance to tie the game, Atlanta had possession with a minute left on the game clock. A Tate Boyce save on the doorstep would secure the victory for the Cannons, allowing them to run out the game clock.
Atlanta will have a week off to get some much-needed rest after playing four games in seven days this past week. They head to Massachusetts with a chance for retribution against the Cannons next Saturday. Opening faceoff is set for 7 PM on July 20th.
