Blaze Defeated by BayHawks 18-13

July 21, 2016 - Major League Lacrosse (MLL)
Atlanta Blaze News Release

The Bayhawks hosted the Atlanta Blaze this Thursday night, winning their fourth game in a row this season. Despite Chesapeake's lead for most of the game, Atlanta never seemed to truly be out of the game, fighting for points until the very end. By the end of the 4th quarter however, Chesapeake had run away with the game, winning 18-13.

The game was initially back-and-forth between Atlanta and Chesapeake as the Blaze were on the board first, however allowing their early lead to quickly fade. The Bayhawks went on an offensive run increasing their lead to six, with Jay Carlson leading the way; while the Blaze still only maintained two total goals. The second quarter began with the momentum still with Chesapeake as they scored two more goals, extending their lead to 8-2. However, Atlanta came back with two goals of their own, cutting the Bayhawks lead to only four. One more goal by Chesapeake eventually ended up being outnumbered by the three back to back to back goals by the Blaze and closing the margin between both teams to only three. Jay Carlson struck again with a buzzer beater to end the half, totaling four goals so far in the game for the Bayhawks.

Momentum once again remained with Chesapeake extending their lead 12-6 over the Blaze. Atlanta however quickly answered back with a three goal run, led by Randy Staats and Nicky Galasso. At the end of the third, the Blaze had narrowed the point spread to 14-9. The final quarter started slow for Atlanta, allowing three goals and only adding one to their total. Although a two-point goal by Staats followed by a goal by Mark Matthews proved that Atlanta would not quit.

With time running out and nothing coming from the Blaze offense, the game ultimately ended with a score of 18-13, as Danowski scored one final goal for the Bayhawks.

Myles Jones was the player of the game, leaving a sting with Atlanta fans as he was recently traded away from the Blaze.

The Atlanta will play their next game at their home of Fifth Third Bank Stadium on July, 23rd at 7pm against the Florida Launch.
