Joplin, MO- The Joplin Blasters announced today the signing of infielder Maikol Gonzalez for the 2015 Inaugural season.

"Maikol's signing is one that we have been excited to announce for quite some time now," said Blasters GM Shawn Suarez. "Maikol is on any given night among the best players of the American Association and we can't wait for him to wear a Blasters uniform."

Gonzalez joins the Blasters after an offseason trade with the Lincoln Saltdogs even though he spent the majority of the 2014 season with the Arkansas Travelers, the AA affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

His career statistics are outstanding; he holds a lifetime batting average of .309 reaching as high as AAA. In 2014, with the Travelers he hit .270, stole 30 bases and collected 86 hits in 89 games. Perhaps his most impressive season came in the 2012 season while playing with the El Paso Diablos where he hit .330 with 40 stolen bases, 5 HRs, and 141 hits in 100 games played.

Gonzalez looks to man the middle of the infield for the Blasters, and adds another weapon to the lineup. His signing marks the 18th player signed to a Blasters contract for the 2015 Inaugural season.

The Blasters are the newest members of the South Division in the American Association of Independent Baseball. They will play a 50 home game schedule beginning in May of 2015 at a renovated Joe Becker Stadium, and will be a major entertainment destination for the Four States Community. Fans are encouraged to purchase their season tickets to make sure they don't miss any of this summer's action. Ticket information, as well as, general information on the Blasters can be found online at www.joplinblasters.com or by calling (417) 437-6105.
