Black Phoenix Rising to receive ABA balls
April 9, 2005 - American Basketball Association (ABA) News Release
Indianapolis, IN. Black Phoenix Rising (BPR) of Prince Georges County, Maryland will receive ABA red, white and blue basketballs as part of the league's program to provide the nation's youth leagues with basketballs. Black Phoenix Rising is a non-profit organization dedicated to assisting youth through academic and athletic support and provides funding and support for community based AAU basketball and baseball programs.
According to David C. Hardy, "In order to counter the negative influence of those who exploit youth for their athletic prowess, we only support teams that will work with us in providing tutors for youth who require academic assistance. We work hard to place these young athlets in the finest academic high schools in the area."
Hardy added, "Our flagship organization is the ABA Maryland Nighthawks AAU basketball team. Team members and their families are offering mentoring assistance, academic guidance and cultural education as well as highly competitive sports programs. We have worked closely with the ABA Maryland Nighthawks as their AAU affiliate; we wear the same uniforms and have appeared at their games."
Tom Doyle, Nighthawks owner said, "The Nighthawks will be sponsoring clinics and tournaments for youth in the Capital area. We think that having red, white and blue balls is the only way to go and we're pleased to be working with Black Phoenix Rising."
