Billy White Named NBLC Most Valuable Player
June 11, 2020 - National Basketball League of Canada (NBL Canada) News Release
The National Basketball League of Canada is pleased to announce that Billy White of the Moncton Magic has been named Most Valuable Player for the 2019-20 season.
The 6'8" forward finished the campaign averaging 18.9 points per game which was the highest in his five year career in the league. He also finished with a field goal percentage of 46% which included a career high 37% from three.
White was also extremely productive on the defensive side of the ball and recorded career highs in blocks and steals.
The San Diego State product had an outstanding year earning Player of the Week honours twice (January 26th & February 23rd).
"Billy is one of the most dominate players this league has ever seen, and he has shown that time and time again", said head coach and GM of player personnel Joe Salerno. "What makes him so difficult to defend is his versatility. He can bury you in the post, finish off the bounce, and knock down the three. He is a miss match nightmare for teams. He also is a tremendous playmaker. The best passing big I have ever coached. There is no doubt my mind Billy was this year's MVP. The Best Player on the Best team."
White had a standout performance on February 23rd when he set a personal and team record with a 52-point game against Halifax. He shot 18-20 from the field overall including 8-10 from three and a perfect 8-8 from the free throw. This was the fourth-highest point total ever achieved in NBL Canada regular season game history and his field goal efficiency arguably makes it one of the best the league has ever seen.
