San Jose, CA - Former San Jose Giants third baseman Bill Mueller is one of the ten candidates in the inaugural California League Hall of Fame Fan Vote, announced by the league today.

The California League announced a 14-member inaugural Hall of Fame class last month, with the 15th member chosen via a fan vote. The initial 14 player class included former San Jose Bees legend George Brett.

"This fan vote is an excellent opportunity for our community to get excited with the 75th anniversary of the California League," said Juliana Paoli, Senior Vice President of Communications and Chief Marketing Officer of the San Jose Giants. "The ability for fans to engage with us through social media and help influence this historic vote is a great opportunity for our fans and the California League."

The vote, presented by the California Beef Council, will take place on the Cal League's website or by clicking here. Voting begins today, and will conclude on Monday, March 28.

Mueller was a member of the 1994 San Jose Giants on his way to the major leagues. The third baseman hit .302 with 20 doubles, nine triples, five home runs and 72 RBI's during his only season in the California League. Four years ago, Mueller was named to the San Jose Giants 25th Anniversary team.

Mueller played for the San Francisco Giants, Chicago Cubs, Boston Red Sox and Los Angeles Dodgers during his 11-year major league career. He owned a career batting average of .291 while producing 1,229 hits. Mueller spent parts of six seasons in San Francisco and was a key contributor on three playoff teams in 1997, 2000 and 2002. He then won the American League batting title while playing for Boston in 2003 before helping the Red Sox win their first World Series in 86 years the following season. Mueller retired following the 2006 campaign.

Current San Francisco Giants Manager Bruce Bochy is also a nominee in the fan vote for his work as Manager during the 1991 season, leading the High Desert Mavericks to the California League Championship.

During the voting period, one fan will win a trip for two to the California-Carolina League All-Star Game and Hall of Fame Ceremony in Lake Elsinore on June 21, courtesy of the California Beef Council. Fans can vote as many times as they want from now until March 28.

The San Jose Giants 2016 season begins Thursday, April 7 at Municipal Stadium against the Lancaster JetHawks. Ticket packages are on sale now. For more information, visit sjgiants.com or call (408) 297-1435.
