New Orleans VooDoo News Release
NEW ORLEANS - Big met little as the New Orleans VooDoo players attended the practice of the VooDoo Division II of the Slidell Youth Football Association (SYFA).
Although the VooDoo players looked like giants compared to the 9&10 year old VooDoo of the SYFA, there was nothing little about the kids love for the game of football.
Inspired by the New Orleans VooDoo's name, the VooDoo of the SYFA began practice just as the AFL's VooDoo begins their practice with stretching and warm-ups. The New Orleans VooDoo players, DE Michael Janac, DL Derandus Frye and WR Chris Duvalt were right by their side shouting out words of encouragement and advice throughout the entire practice.
"I love giving back to the community. It's heart -warming to see the kids and how they reacted to us being out there. It's an all-around good feeling being around the kids," said Chris Duvalt.
SYFA VooDoo Head Coach Billy West explained that having the professional football players out at their practice really gave his kids an extra boost of energy. West said that he has never seen some of his kids play the way they did at Wednesday's practice.
Having two grandson's and a nephew on his team West is all about making the kids better. When asked what his words of advice were to his team, West said, "Administer the lick, don't take the lick." These words proved to be true as the VooDoo went undefeated in the regular season last year.
After an autograph session, a couple of photos and a pep talk from the New Orleans VooDoo players, the VooDoo took back to the field to finish up their practice.
The VooDoo of the SYFA will open their 2013 season this Saturday, August 24 at 4:30 p.m. against the Bucs. The New Orleans VooDoo wishes them the best of luck this season.
