New York Liberty News Release
NEW YORK - The New York Liberty has signed veteran guard/forward, Betnijah Laney, to a multi-year extension through the 2025 season.
Following her breakout season in 2020, where she garnered the WNBA's Most Improved Player and All-Defensive First Team honors, Laney signed with New York in 2021 where she became a WNBA All-Star and has since led New York to three consecutive playoff berths.
Through 39 contests in 2023, Betnijah is averaging 12.8 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 2.5 assists in 30 minutes per game on a career-high 50.0% shooting from the field and 39.5% from three, including a career-best 58 makes from deep.
"We're beyond excited to extend Betnijah's tenure with New York Liberty- further positioning the organization for long-term success," said Liberty General Manager Jonathan Kolb. "What she brings to the team on both ends, as well as intangibly, cannot be understated." Kolb added, "There is no doubt in my mind B could see herself in the Liberty Ring of Honor someday as one of the franchise's all-time greats."
During her three-season tenure in Brooklyn, the 2023 Defensive Player of the Year candidate has made 80 appearances for the Liberty, including 77 starts, posting averages of 14.2 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 3.6 assists per game on 46.9% shooting from the field and 36.1% from three.
