Berrios and Waelchli join Flyers Coaching Staff

Schaumburg, IL - New Schaumburg Flyers manager, Steve Maddock has selected his coaching staff for the 2007 campaign. The Flyers announced Tom Waelchli (Walk-Lee) as the new Schaumburg pitching coach and original Flyer Harry Berrios as the team's new hitting coach.
"I am very excited to have Tom and Harry aboard in Schaumburg," says Maddock, "Tom was with me both years in San Angelo, and he was a big part of us winning the Championship. He has experience as a manager, hitting coach and pitching coach, and players enjoy learning from him."
Waelchli brings nine years of professional coaching/managing experience to the Flyers. He has served as pitching coach for four teams, most recently the Sioux Falls Canaries in 2004.
"I'm also very excited that Harry has decided to join us for his first experience as a hitting coach. For many years, he has been the premier hitter in the Northern League, and I know our team will benefit from his knowledge. All three of us expect great things in the upcoming season."
Prior to joining the Flyers coaching staff Berrios' role was simply hitting. In 2006, Maddock watched from the dugout as Berrios hit .319 in 54 games for the Winnipeg Goldeyes. Berrios posted a .309 batting average with 11 homeruns in 1999, the Flyers' inaugural season. He was hitting .328 in 2000 when the Texas Rangers purchased his contract and sent him to AA Tulsa. Berrios had been playing for Winnipeg since 2002 and has hit better than .300 in eight of his nine years in the Northern League.
