Danbury Whalers News Release
The Battle of New England saw its latest installment at Danbury Arena on Thursday night, and it was a very strange contest. A case of many incomplete comebacks and nearly blown leads, and a game of debuts and bad luck.
The Whalers started well, outshooting the Battalion in the first several minutes, gaining scoring chances and testing Louis George early in goal for Berkshire. However, it was a disaster of a period in general, starting midway through. Martin Uhnak scored twice followed by a goal by Vadim Guskov made it 3-0 before Brett Liscomb snuck a goal in for Danbury to make it 3-1 through 1 period. 2 minutes into the 2nd period Micky Knox scored to make it a 3-2 game, and it looked like Danbury had regained control, yet they never did get closer than one goal behind. Guskov scored 35 seconds later to make it 4-2, and then Danbury made it 4-3 at 4:39 off a goal by Rob Dongara. However, in the final 10 minutes, Mike Kasalowskas and Vlad Gavrik scored to make it 6-3 going into the 3rd. Cue the next attempted Whalers comeback. Tim Richter got it started at 1:12 to make it a 2 goal game, 6-4. Then at the 8 minute mark Ian DeLong scored to make it 6-5. Once again the Whalers threatened to tie but could not succeed. Berkshire then scored twice in a minute and 30 seconds from Tristan Lysko, and Mike Dolman. It was a 3 goal game once again, 8-5. Down by three Danbury attempted once again to comeback, but once again it failed and by the slimmest of margins. Ian Delong scored at 12:51 to make it a 8-6 game, and Jordan Ciccarello made it 8-7 with 5:10 to go. The Whalers kept pressing until Ilya Solarev took a penalty with 3:34 to go, and Mike Dolman would score the power play goal to make it 9-7, and then add an empty netter to make it 10-7, 2 minutes later, and was the final score.
For the Berkshire Battalion, Mike Dolman had 3 goals, Martin Uhnak and Vadim Guskov had 2 goals and an assist, Tristan Lysko had a goal and 2 assists, Mike Kaselouskas had a goal and assists, and Vladislav Gavrik had the other goal. Tom Tracy tallied 4 assists, and Mike McCurtain and Robert Morton had 2 assists each. Louis George stopped 42 of 49 shots for the victory. For the Whalers, Ian DeLong had 2 goals and an assist, Brett Liscomb, Rob Dongara and Micky Knox each had a goal and assist, and Tim Richter and Jordan Ciccarello had the other goals. Ryan Patsch had 3 assists and Sean Maktaak had 2 assists. Mike Pearless stopped 21 of 30 shots for the loss.
